Martin Ewers has a degree in economics from the university of Cologne and a PhD from the University of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg with a thesis on the interconnection of telecommunications networks. From 1995 to 2000 he had been working for RWE Telliance AG, at that time a holding with various stakes in telecom companies. Since 1998, Ewers held the position of  Director Regulatory Affairs.

In 2000, Ewers has founded Ewers Consult GmbH, a consultancy specialized on regulatory affairs. Since then he has worked for a number of regulators, telecom incumbents and market entrants. Major projects dealt with the implementation of the EU regulatory framework for the communications sector in Central and Eastern European countries. The list of assignments covers Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Rumania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, Cyprus and the UAE.
